If you have a Senior this year at Marina High School, you probably heard all about important events that they participated in over the last couple of weeks. On Tuesday May 5th, they all participated in mock interviews and last week, they all participated in their Senior Portfolio Defense.
Although these unique opportunities allowed our scholars to share their perspectives and their very personal journeys, what impressed me the most as the Principal at Marina High School is the fact that both of these opportunities were nothing but great examples of a responsive and supportive community: our two teachers in charge of these activities, Mr. Collins and Mr. Rodger worked on ensuring both our school community and the Marina community as a whole had an opportunity to collaborate with and support our youth in such an important step of their journey.
Just as our Seniors allocated time and effort to present their ideas (and to present themselves), our many members of the community responded with kindness, insight, and compassion in a very positive and encouraging way. Examples like these remind us that we are all an integral part of our community and that when we work together, our scholars win. What a way to celebrate a milestone of our soon-to-graduate Mariners!
I also wanted to thank our community for joining us during our second annual Carnival! It is so great to see our scholars, staff, and families come to a safe and fun environment and take part in the many activities. From involving our Culinary Arts Program to cook and sell food, to involving our Mariners by doing face painting, our carnival was another example of our community enjoying time together:

Catholic Charities Diocese of Monterey will be at Soper Field (220 Coe Ave, Seaside, CA 93955) on Monday, June 1, from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM for its Immigration Clinic. The team will provide trusted help with: Immigration Legal Consultations, DACA and green card renewals, and Family Preparedness Planning Assistance. Celebrating our English Language Learners Help us celebrate the achievements of our English language learner students as they reclassify to fluent English proficient on June 1, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at our District Services Center located at 540 Canyon Del Rey in Del Rey Oaks. Families of students receiving special education services are invited to learn more about diploma pathways in MPUSD. Meals on Wheels- Meals for our families Don’t leave food on the table! Los Arboles Middle School in partnership with Meals on Wheels is offering free, chef-prepared take-home meals every Friday for MPUSD families but not all meals are being picked up each week, even though we know families are in need. If this would help your household, please come by and take advantage of this free resource.
