Dear Marina High School Families,
Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! With this very first edition of the Weekly Wave, I'd like to share that I am extremely proud to serve as the Principal at Marina High School for a third year. I am very excited about the many possibilities that this school year will bring for all our scholars and families as we continue to build a stronger school community together.
If you are a returning family, you know that I communicate with all of you through this very exclusive newsletter (wink, wink), reserved for none other than to our Marina High School partners. If you are a new family, then you just learned that you will be bothered by me on a weekly basis.
In terms of what is new this year, I am very happy to welcome the following new teachers and staff members. Here I am sharing their names and assignments in no particular order:
- Ms. Jasmin Hernandez will be teaching our Freshman Seminar/Ethnic Studies Class
Ms. Elizabeth Mackey will be teaching English to our Seniors and will also help students make up their missing credits through Credit Recovery Mr. Sean Fitch will be teaching Physics and Biology Ms. Jazmin Mendoza will be teaching Spanish Ms. Billie Nozicka will be teaching US History and will also help students make up their missing credits through Credit Recovery Ms. Nicole Smith is joining us as our School Psychologist Mr. Andrew (Drew) Duzan who will be supporting our Sedial Education Department as a Behavior Technician
Last year I had the opportunity to explore some alternatives due to some safety concerns regarding the drop off and pick up of our students. Because of that, we are making the following changes as reflected in the attached map.
They yellow arrows indicate the route for parents as you have two access points to school. The red lines reflect the areas that are access points for staff only.
Please take a moment to review it and plan accordingly. This new procedure and routes apply to both the morning drop-off as well as the afternoon pick up. Although the satellite image is not current, the routes are easy to follow:
As I mentioned above, I am very excited to start the school year in partnership with you as we look for the many ways to serve our students together as a team.
Next week I will be sharing some additional new changes to our facilities and services for our students. I did not include them in this edition because, well, I wanted to keep it a little short.

Parent/Guardian/Student Handbook Now Available
The 2026 - 2027 MPUSD Parent/Guardian/Student Handbook is now available online. The handbook includes important information about student rights and responsibilities, attendance, health and safety, technology use, school policies, and more to help families prepare for a successful school year. Voluntary Student Accident and Illness Insurance Option Available
As part of the new school year, families will receive information about optional student accident and medical insurance plans available for purchase. While MPUSD DOES NOT provide medical or dental insurance for students, these voluntary plans can help provide coverage for school-related injuries or 24/7 accidents, depending on the option you choose. We encourage all parents and guardians to review the materials carefully to determine whether this optional coverage is right for your family. Learn more and access the enrollment information here.
ParentVUE & StudentVUE App Update
Families and students using the ParentVUE or StudentVUE mobile app will need to update to the latest version to continue accessing their accounts. Older versions of the app are no longer supported and will display a login error. Visit our website for simple update instructions, answers to frequently asked questions, and information on how to get help if you need assistance.

Waiting on your student's bus pass? Don't worry!
We're hard at work processing bus passes, and it may take a little time as we prepare for the new school year. Good news: Students who ride the bus will not be required to show a bus pass until Monday, August 31, 2026. They can continue riding the bus while passes are being processed. Still need to request a bus pass? Visit www.mpusd.net/bus-passes. Thank you for your patience as we get everyone ready for a smooth start to the school year!

8.3 Freshmen Orientation from 8:00-12:00 pm (STUDENTS ONLY); Students will meet in the
MaHS Gym
Freshmen Family Meeting from 11:30-12:00 pm; Parents and Family members are invited to meet for a brief orientation and Q/A with Admin in the Cove.
12:00 noon, Marina High will host a BBQ for all students and families to enjoy.

9th grade, 8:30-10:00 am
10th grade, 10:00-11:30 am
11th grade, 11:30-1:00 pm
12th grade, 1:00 - 12:30 pm
8.4 First Day of School!!! School begins promptly at 8:30am.
