I'd like to start by sharing that we had a great first week back. The energy at Marina High was palpable, positive, and quite inspiring.
On Monday, we had a our Freshman orientation in which our Link Crew Leaders did a remarkable job helping our incoming freshmen learn about our school and programs as they connected with each other. I also had the opportunity to barbeque for our students and meet with a group of our parents who joined in.
We had our Picture and Schedule day on Tuesday in which students came to take their picture and pick up their schedules, and Wednesday, of course, we welcomed all our Mariners for their first day.
Our teachers prepared different activities for our Week of Welcome and, as Mr. Van Sant and I visited all classrooms, we observed how our teachers created many opportunities to establish norms and respect agreements in each class as they built the classroom culture that makes our school such a special place. The wonderful thing about this? Your students responded well to this experience and are helping us get our 2026-27 school year started smoothly.
I also wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your help during the drop off and pick up. You are really helping us improve safety for our students and staff while improving on the traffic flow. I am resharing the map for your reference:
One thing we noticed over the first three days of school is that the amount of traffic during both drop off and pick up is significantly lower on Rendova. I am including a couple of pictures for your reference. Both were taken during drop off at the same time.
Patton Parkway:
Rendova: Please consider accessing our school through Rendova as an alternative so that your student can make it to class on time by avoiding the traffic jam that typically develops on Patton Parkway during drop off.

College and Career Center One of the facilities updates this year at Marina High School is the addition of our College and Career Center. Although we are currently setting it up, our partners the Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) will be providing support to our students in multiple ways: from offering after school tutoring opportunities, to helping our students with FAFSA and College and career exploration. I will continue to share updates through the Weekly Wave. Parent/Guardian/Student Handbook Now Available The 2026 - 2027 MPUSD Parent/Guardian/Student Handbook is now available online. The handbook includes important information about student rights and responsibilities, attendance, health and safety, technology use, school policies, and more to help families prepare for a successful school year. Voluntary Student Accident and Illness Insurance Option Available As part of the new school year, families will receive information about optional student accident and medical insurance plans available for purchase. While MPUSD DOES NOT provide medical or dental insurance for students, these voluntary plans can help provide coverage for school-related injuries or 24/7 accidents, depending on the option you choose. ParentVUE & StudentVUE App Update Families and students using the ParentVUE or StudentVUE mobile app will need to update to the latest version to continue accessing their accounts. Older versions of the app are no longer supported and will display a login error. Waiting on your student's bus pass? Don't worry! We're hard at work processing bus passes, and it may take a little time as we prepare for the new school year. Good news: Students who ride the bus will not be required to show a bus pass until Monday, August 31, 2026. They can continue riding the bus while passes are being processed.
