Principal's Message

Dear Marina High School Families,

We just had our first full week with all our scholars at Marina High and it was so refreshing to see that they understand and respond well to our teachers' expectations. This is a clear reflection of your work as parents guiding your students in what can be a very complicated experience. Yet, what I observed this past week was very positive and very encouraging.

This week I am sharing a couple of videos that our Link Crew Leadership class created. The first video was shared in all classrooms as part of the different connecting activities our teachers practiced with our scholars. It covers classroom etiquette which is one of the different school-wide Tier I expectations:

Additionally, since our Fall sports season is about to start, I am also asking for your support when you come and enjoy our events in the stadium. Once again, our Link Crew student leaders created the following video reminding us ways to ensure we all have a good time each time we come to watch an event. We do want our community to gather and walk away with a fun and safe experience. Please take a moment to watch and remember to support us by following the guidelines shared.

Thank you again for all your support. Together we are ensuring our kids have the best experience in high school yet.

Let's have a great week and Go Mariners!

Our School's Phone Policy
Although we understand the importance of cell phones when it comes to communicating with your scholar, please remember that at Marina High, we have the following Cell Phone Policy. Please become familiarized with it and review it with your scholar.

School Site Council Ballot
You received the notification over the weekend to participate in our School Site Council elections, but I am including a reminder in this edition as well. Please use this link to cast your vote. Elections close this Friday at 4:00 pm. I will share the results in the next edition of the Weekly Wave. Our first School Site Council meeting will take place Thursday August 27 at 4:00 pm in Rm. 8.

Leave your legacy at our school
The Marina High School Athletic Booster Club is launching a donor wall and personalized plaque campaign to help support the future Marina High Stadium. From honoring a student or graduate to recognizing families, alumni, businesses, and community supporters, every plaque helps invest in student-athletes, school spirit, and future community events. Learn more about how you can be part of Marina High history.

Girls on the Run
Girls Inc. is a non-profit organization and a community partner designed to empower our female students at Marina High. If you have a Freshman or Sophomore student, please encourage them to connect and join. This organization will also be visiting PE classes this month and will table during Club Rush during lunch this Friday.

Free Scholarship Money for College
Did you know your child may already qualify for up to $1,500 in free college savings through California’s CalKIDS program? MPUSD wants to make sure every family knows about this incredible opportunity to jumpstart their student’s future. Learn how this state-funded program helps families begin saving now for college or career training. No application required. The sooner you take advantage of this free money, the faster it grows by the time they graduate 12th grade. Visit CalKids directly (Note, you will need your student's statewide Student Identifier (SSID) which you can get on ParentVue by logging in and clicking on student profile.)

Waiting on your student's bus pass? Don't worry!
We're hard at work processing bus passes, and it may take a little time as we prepare for the new school year. Good news: Students who ride the bus will not be required to show a bus pass until Monday, August 31, 2026. They can continue riding the bus while passes are being processed. Still need to request a bus pass? Visit www.mpusd.net/bus-passes. Thank you for your patience as we get everyone ready for a smooth start to the school year!

Congratulations to Marina High School Boys Soccer Head Coach Hugo Cortes as Marina Man of the Year!
