This week I'd like to share a couple of examples in which we continue to create a community with you as families in the service of our students. The first example is through participating in our School Site Council. This year, two parents will be joining, Ms. Tiffany Grau and Ms. Carrie Kuhl. Thank you all for helping us elect the new parent members of our council.
In case you are wondering, the School Site Council is composed of equal numbers of staff and parent representatives who can serve up to a two-year term. We meet eight times a year to oversee the implementation of various programs in the school, including state and federally-funded programs. The School Site Council is a governing body that is responsible for deciding how to spend approximately $170,000 of categorical money to improve the instructional program here at Marina High. Each school in the district receives a different amount of money, based on enrollment. The School Site Council members work together, to set goals, for improving student achievement at the school and allocate the funds to accomplish those goals.
The second opportunity to partner with Marina High School is by joining our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). The purpose of thePTO is to build a strong partnership between families and our school staff. Our PTO will work with us to support students, assist teachers, raise money for school needs, and plan community events that make the school a better place to learn.
We will have our first School Site Council and Parent Teacher Organization meetings this Thursday August 27. The School Site Council meeting will start at 4:00 pm and the Parent Teacher Organization meeting will start at 5:15. We will meet in Rm. 8. Please join us. Both meetings are open to everyone.

Parent/Guardian/Student Handbook Now Available The 2026 - 2027 MPUSD Parent/Guardian/Student Handbook is now available online. The handbook includes important information about student rights and responsibilities, attendance, health and safety, technology use, school policies, and more to help families prepare for a successful school year. Free Food for MPUSD Families We are excited to share chef-prepared, take-home meals for MPUSD families. Visit one of four school sites on various days, including Central Coast High School, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School, Ord Terrace Elementary, and Seaside High School.
Waiting on your student's bus pass? Don't worry! We're hard at work processing bus passes, and it may take a little time as we prepare for the new school year. Good news: Students who ride the bus will not be required to show a bus pass until Monday, August 31, 2026. They can continue riding the bus while passes are being processed.
