There are multiple ways to know our school and we are happy to offer these opportunities. For example, you have the option of joining our ELAC, School Site Council (SSC) and Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) meetings to learn more about how we operate and bring programs to our kids.
This week, you will also have the opportunity to get to know us a little more by visiting our school during Back to School Night, which will happen this Thursday at 5:30 pm. You will have the chance to meet our teaching staff and visit our different programs as you talk to our teachers, staff, and administration.
And another way to get to know us is by knowing our different policies and expectations. Because I prefer to keep my Weekly Wave succinct when possible, I am not inlcuding the entire attendance policy but instead, this week I am including some of the most common reasons why a scholar's attendance is impacted, the consequences for not addressing the attendance issue, and the ways to clear it. Please take a moment to review them:
Being absent and coming late in the morning and during the day contributes to truancy and chronic absenteeism
Missing 30 minutes (even with permission, and even if excused) of any one class constitutes a cut which contributes to chronic absenteeism and truancy
Leaving class without permission can constitute a cut which contributes to chronic absenteeism and truancy
I am including a couple of frequently asked questions that offer additional clarification:
What happens if a scholar has poor attendance (absences and tardies)? Unless scholars clear their attendance, they will not be able to participate in our school’s social events, including dances such as Homecoming and Prom, and specific sports events.
How do I clear my attendance?
The first step is to show up to class every day, to every period, and to be on time. If your scholar has issues with attendance, they can addressing them by
Coming to Saturday School - 4hrs will clear one day of Unexcused (UNX) absence, three UNX class periods, or it will clear 10 tardies
Coming to after school tutoring - 4hrs will clear one day of Unexcused (UNX) absence, three UNX class periods, or it will clear 10 tardies
What about when my student needs to go to a medical appointment first thing in the morning and arrive to school late? Please make sure to bring the doctor's note so that the absence can be excused at school.
Please remember that strong attendance helps students stay connected, engaged and on track for success. This year, you may receive mail or text updates about your student’s attendance, including both excused and unexcused absences.

MPUSD Launches New Spanish-Language Facebook Community MPUSD is excited to launch Comunidad de Familias MPUSD, a new Spanish-language Facebook group created specifically for our Spanish-speaking families and students. We will be promoting this page specifically for our Spanish-language families, but share this as information to the MPUSD community at large. The group provides another way for Spanish-language families to connect, stay informed, and engage with our school community. We’ll share important district updates, upcoming events, helpful resources, school highlights, and other information of interest to our families all in Spanish. Comunidad de Familias MPUSD is an additional way to stay connected with MPUSD and complements the important school and district communications families receive through ParentSquare.

Free Food for MPUSD Families We are excited to share chef-prepared, take-home meals for MPUSD families. Visit one of four school sites on various days, including Central Coast High School, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School, Ord Terrace Elementary, and Seaside High School. Waiting on your student's bus pass? Don't worry! We're hard at work processing bus passes, and it may take a little time as we prepare for the new school year. Good news: Students who ride the bus will not be required to show a bus pass until Monday, August 31, 2026. They can continue riding the bus while passes are being processed.
