Students Leaving campus

Posted Date: 10/23/26 (03:48 PM)

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This is an important reminder regarding Marina High School’s campus leaving policy.

Per California Education Code 44808.5, the MPUSD Governing Board permits students in Grade 12 who meet eligibility requirements to leave school grounds during the lunch period. Neither the school district nor any officer or employee thereof shall be liable for the conduct or safety of any pupil during such time as the pupil has
left the school grounds pursuant to this section. This privilege applies only to eligible seniors and does not extend to freshmen, sophomores, or juniors.

Please review the following expectations with your student:
  • Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors: Are not permitted to leave campus during the school day, including lunchtime.
  • Seniors: May leave campus during lunch only if they meet the eligibility requirements, and follow the required sign-out procedures at the attendance office, and ensure returning on time to their next class.
  • Seniors are not eligible if they are on the "no fun" list, if they have 5 of lates after lunch as a result of returning late or if they have attendance issues.
Students who leave campus without authorization or fail to follow the required procedures may face disciplinary consequences, including lunch detention, parent/guardian contact, campus cleanup or trash pickup, loss of privileges and possible suspension, depending on the circumstances.

We appreciate your support in reinforcing these expectations with your student. Our priority is to maintain a safe campus, ensure student accountability, and consistently enforce school policies.
