Hello all,

You are on this email because of your passion to promote student voice and advocacy at your sites.

We have an opportunity to engage with select students interested in learning more about themselves and the world around them through SLAM, a series lead by Dr Watson from Race Works. Dr Watson, previously worked with our student leaders in the SOAR sessions. This is also very similar to our NCBI sessions from our pre-covid years.

SLAM (Student Leaders' Anti-Racism Movement) is designed not just to engage students in conversations about race, but to empower and mobilize them as catalysts for change through an anti-racist leadership youth movement

Here are some details:

Race Works with Dr. Watson

  • 12-15 Students per site

  • 1-2 Teachers who will commit for next year also

  • 9-10th grade students to build momentum for Fall 2022 and beyond

  • Focus student groups: Leadership, Student Leaders for Change, other student advocates

3 Seminar Styled Sessions from 8:30 am to  2:30 pm

  • March 7 (MHS Library)

  • April 11 (Seaside High School Makerspace)

  • May 6 (TBD)

We have put aside Wednesday, March 2 at 3:30 pm for the adult advocates (teachers/counselors and admin) to meet Dr Watson and learn more about the supportive role they can play in these student sessions. Teachers will be compensated for their time.

THis is just a brief overview of the program, but I wanted to let people know ASAP as we continue to work out the details.

Questions? Please let me know.
