The Leadership Academy Instructional Rounds is our opportunity to engage in collaborative practices in small cohort groups on rotating sites. Cohorts will meet at a host site, ground and participate in a virtual “whole group” experience, review the site’s problem of practice, and engage in instructional rounds. These instructional rounds will also strive to make our learning public. We ask that both host site leaders and visiting site leaders embody these elements of Public Learning outlined in Street Data: A Next Generation Model for Equity, Pedagogy, and School Transformation.
Begin with curiosity: shines a light on the experience of learning and promotes a listening stance by openly inviting in the presence of uncertainty, complexity, curiosity, vulnerability and wonder.
Uncover student experience: centers the voice of the adult learner and understanding students learning experience through relevant Street data.
Build space for sense-making in challenging bias: acknowledges (1) the messiness of making sense of what success looks like and where the students are in relation to the goal, and (2) the avoidable presence of implicit bias, which is made visible through inviting multiple perspectives.
Acknowledge that learning is social emotional: insist upon collective, explicit reflection on the social and emotional aspects of adult learning to continually deepen and strengthen the learning practice.
Value the learning and systems level: sits inside of a system that values practitioner learning and knowledge-building. This value is an essential part of fueling the motivation to continually learn while carrying out the challenging work of leading.
