On Friday, September 5, 2025, the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District and Marina High will celebrate the long-anticipated project with a special ribbon cutting ceremony at 7:00 p.m. The ceremony will take place just before the Mariners face off against Yerba Buena High School from San Jose in both junior varsity and varsity football action.

The $12 million project was funded through Measure I, a $213 million facilities bond passed by voters in 2018. Construction began in spring 2024 and wrapped up in July 2025, with the stadium quickly becoming a new home base for school spirit, competition, and community pride.

“This project is more than an investment in facilities; it’s an investment in our scholar-athletes, our school pride, and the future of Marina High,” said Superintendent PK Diffenbaugh. “The Marina community has waited patiently for a state-of-the-art stadium and field, and that wait is finally over.”

Principal Jose Quevedo echoed the sentiment, calling the stadium “an extension of the classroom where students build character, learn teamwork, and take pride in their school.”

The multi-use stadium includes:

  • Modern bleachers and stadium lighting

  • Upgraded scoreboards and sound system

  • Storage and concession areas

  • Improvements to the adjacent baseball field

  • Enhanced student drop-off, crosswalks, and parking

  • Security upgrades including fencing and gates

  • Accessibility improvements with new stairs and ADA ramp

Athletes have already had a taste of the new facilities. The girls flag football team was the first to play on the field in late August, followed by football teams using it for summer practices and conditioning.

For Athletic Director Juan Cisneros, the stadium represents more than a construction project—it’s a milestone years in the making.
