Student Leaders of Change

Student Leaders of Change is a dynamic student-centered course that provides students opportunities to blend leadership skills with advocacy to address local issues concerning race, gender, and class. A lens of social justice will pervade the course as students will participate in this liberatory class in which students have multiple types of leadership opportunities with the teacher serving as a guide and advocate. Each unit will be project-based in that content will be learned through inquiry with students able to research content individually and/or collaboratively. The class centers on using knowledge about power, systems, and structures of race, gender, and class to address local issues, including participation in school awareness campaigns, working with teachers on curricula, and participating in community organizations.
