What is this course all about?
This foundational course for MPUSD’s Health Science and Medical Technology industry sector will provide scholars with an opportunity to explore and understand personal wellness, the history of health professions, and the extensive range of career options within the healthcare industry. Scholars will learn basics in medical terminology, fundamental human anatomy and physiology, medical asepsis, patient confidentiality, medical ethics, and the legal aspects of the healthcare industry with the overarching theme of personal health. Additionally, scholars will learn basic employability skills. Students will have the opportunity to become certified in First Aid (Covid Health guidelines permitting)
If applicable, scholars who are enrolled for the entirety of August - October will be enrolled in the MEDA 100 via the Dual Enrollment Program at MPC. Daily attendance is a requirement for the course as this is NOT an online course. The MEDA 100 Intro to Health Careers course will follow the MPC guidelines, policies, and a separate MPC approved syllabus. Assignments and grading for this portion of the course will be posted in Canvas. The instructor is not permitted to update parents/guardians regarding course progress or grades for the MEDA 100 course. Please check in with your scholar regularly.
How will this course help me be College and Career Ready?
Scholars will explore the major career fields, learn essential communication skills, participate in guest speakers and industry discussions, as well as be provided with learning opportunities to develop employability skills. In addition, scholars will explore various healthcare career fields by engaging in the Paxton Patterson Health Science Career Ready curriculum. This hands-on approach will allow scholars to explore career fields right from the classroom.

What is this course all about?
Patient Care and Personal Wellness is designed to integrate concepts and skills scholars are developing throughout the pathway for work in direct patient care settings. Students will practice medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, patient intake procedures, vital signs, physical measurements, procedures to prepare patients for examinations. Integrated throughout the course are career preparation standards that include basic academic skills, interpersonal skills, problem solving, safety, and technology. Worksite learning and/or internships may be a required component of this course and available to eligible students. Students will have the opportunity to become certified in Basic Life Support: CPR and AED (Covid Health guidelines permitting).
How will this course help me be College and Career Ready?
Scholars will explore healthcare settings and team member roles as well as learn the independent and collaborative skills and knowledge required to work directly with patients. Students will continue to develop career and employability skills and acquire industry recognized certifications. Scholars will participate in a Global TeleSquad Virtual Clinic experience in Honduras.
What concepts and skills will I master in this course?
Scholars will master basic concepts related to healthcare settings and effective team dynamics, communication, personal wellness, and employability skills. Scholars will also learn skills needed to work directly with patients such as infection control, accurate measurement of vital signs, basic life support, patient comfort, basic wound care, and others.


In this course we will focus on the direct creation of art and entertainment through the production of music. Scholars will discuss and demonstrate basic operations of digital audio software to construct and arrange music. Scholars will explore the use of music in our everyday lives and the impact the industry has on the world. Scholars will also learn to develop an appreciation for all types of genres of music as well as the creative process utilized in the creation of music.

This course will introduce foundational practices and skills necessary to compose, record and promote music for radio, tv, video, and film. Students will learn software used in the recording industry. (Garageband, Sound Trap, & Logic Pro X. )

Course Description:
What is this course all about?
This course is about the study of Digital Game Design. In this class we will learn about the creation of 2D and 3D games using Unity and Gamemaker Studio. You will examine various game styles and use 3D modeling, programing and the iterative design process. In this process you will experience different stages of the creative process to create a finished product.
How will this course help me be College and Career Ready?
This course will help scholars through the study of Computer Science and Design. These skills are an important part of the Scholar Profile. Games are a new medium of communication that has influenced and changed the course of human experience. This class helps scholars see the world and society in different ways and creates an understanding of different approaches to solving problems.
What concepts and skills will I master in this course?
Through this course scholars will learn to identify and utilize the scientific process and graphic design. This class will cover the basics of Animation, Lighting, Audio, Physics, Programing, Project Management, and Asset Management. We will also look at how we can communicate ideas while providing a user with an entertaining and interactive experience. The skills covered in this class are designed to support students in getting a Unity’s Associate Developer Certification.
